This is a vase-shaped and graceful tree that grows 60-70’ tall. It has a beautiful, smooth, gray bark. The dark-green foliage turns to orange brown and bronze red in the fall. The flowers are not showy. It blooms at the same time the leaves appear. The small, 1/4”, kidney-bean shaped drupe ripens in the fall. Native: Found in rich soils at the base of mountains and streams in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Manchuria.
